“Done 100% Exactly RIGHT” Is In Our Company’s DNA… Literally

How The Son Of An Amish Carpenter Became The Most
Ambitious Home Remodeler In Northern VA.

A Message From Arlen Miller, Owner

Blame my father for how your project turns out.

He was a contractor. And, until I was born, he was Amish.

Though my father left the community, he never lost that iconic Amish work ethic. In fact, he passed it on to me.

Doing things 100% exactly right with an absolute refusal to cut one single corner? That’s not something I had to force myself to learn or commit to over the years.

It’s a value that’s hardwired in my DNA.

I Put Up My First Wall Of Siding When I Was 10

When I was 10 years old, my dad took me to one of his job sites to give him a hand. But not the “pass me the tools” type of help you’d expect from a 10-year-old on a major remodel.

Nope.

My father had me install an entire wall of siding… BY MYSELF.

Most adults can’t install siding, and here I was putting up an entire wall of it before I reached middle school. And you know what? While it wasn’t easy, I did a pretty good job for someone who still watched Saturday morning cartoons.

But “pretty good” wasn’t in my father’s vocabulary.

When my father inspected my work, he noticed one of the corners wasn’t exactly right. This is when most dads would pat their sons on the back and say, “Good work, son. I’ll fix that corner.”

My dad said, “Tear it all down and start over.”

So I removed the wall of siding plank by plank and started again.

The second time around, it was perfect.

That First Job Instilled A Lifelong Lesson

You may think my father was being harsh—I know my 10-year-old self thought that at the time.

But looking back, I realize he was passing on his Amish work ethic to me. He was teaching me to embrace challenges and do things right… even if it meant making a second or third attempt.

That single experience with that particular wall of siding has guided my approach to remodeling ever since.

How My Amish Roots Ensure YOU Amazing Results

In 2003, I started Miller Home Improvements with one goal: Do the job right—no matter what it takes, and no matter how long it takes.

Corner cutting? Missed details? Sloppy work? Those may be common in the remodeling industry… but at Miller Home Improvements, they simply do NOT exist. If something isn’t EXACTLY right, we work on it until it’s perfect. ZERO exceptions.

But doing the job right doesn’t JUST mean making sure every installation detail is perfect. Doing the job right means ensuring the customer is completely, 100% ecstatic with the results.

Devising solutions to complex design issues and seemingly impossible remodeling problems is my specialty. If another contractor tells you something can’t be done, come to me before you give up.

At Miller Home Improvements, we thrive on devising solutions to complex design issues and seemingly impossible remodeling problems. If another contractor tells you something is not possible, I say they’re just not trying hard enough.

Bottom line: We WILL find a way to deliver a home remodel that you’ll LOVE.
